The Syrian Arab Republic faces significant vulnerabilities due to global warming and climate change. Increasing temperatures and prolonged droughts threaten livelihoods, agricultural productivity, water availability, and community health across all social and economic sectors. The ongoing crisis has further exacerbated these challenges, leading to weakened adaptive capacities due to damaged infrastructure, limited institutional capabilities, and high poverty levels among displaced populations. In response to these pressing issues, on October 24, 2021, UN-HABITAT, UNDP, and FAO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, launched the project titled “Increasing the Climate Change Resilience of Communities in Eastern Ghouta in Rural Damascus to Water Scarcity Challenges through Integrated Natural Resource Management and Immediate Adaptation Interventions,”
